Fan Perspective on Detroit Lions Consolidated NFL Power Rankings for Week 3

COMMENTARY | As a long-time Lions fan, this season is starting to feel good. It has been over 10 years since the Lions have been to the playoffs, and there's a lot of buzz about this year's team. After gritting through a tough road game against a decent Tampa Bay team and the shellacking of Kansas City, the Lions have their fan base energized in a way that has not been seen in many years. The national media have noticed, and the Lions are climbing up the power rankings at a good pace: Cheap Minnesota Vikings Jerseys

: Rank-11. Last Week-12. Their comments: "It's time for people to view the Lions as a legitimate threat in the NFC North."

: Rank-11. Last Week-11. Their comments: "In years past, Detroit was always the lesser opponent. But on Sunday they took advantage of the lesser opponent and completely dominated the Chiefs in every aspect of the game. Don't dismiss this lopsided win based on the inadequacies of the Chiefs. This was a good win."

: Rank-5. Last Week-13. Their comments: "That offense has been explosive in two games, but what's truly impressive is how well the defense has held up on the back end."

Interestingly, jumped the Lions WAY Ravens Jerseys cheap up after the Chiefs game while the other two did not. I would attribute this to caution on the part of ESPN and Fox. That caution is justified given the recent history of the Silver and Blue. CBS may be spotting them the win at Minnesota (they rank Cheap Minnesota Vikings Jerseys the Vikes #30 after all; how did that Favre experiment work out?). I can see ESPN and Fox moving the Lions up as well if they do get the win on the road.

Here's a great little tidbit out of the CBS rankings: Their top 5? Packers, Patriots, Jets, Texans, Lions. When was the last time you heard "Lions" matched with any of those teams without the word "lose" somewhere nearby?

Remember as well the first two games of the season the Lions have been without DT Nick Fairley and RB Mikel Leshoure, two of their top three draft picks. Leshoure is gone for the year with a torn ACL, and there is no timetable yet for Fairley's return, although he has started running and doing more intensive training to rehabilitate his injured foot. My speculation is they will hold him back until at least the Monday night game Oct. 10 against Chicago. It makes the most sense to start him at home, and why not give him the chance to play on the big stage as long as he is ready?

See video of Fairley taking about his rehabilitation

All in all, it's shaping up to be a good year in Motown. Of course we all hope we don't get a repeat of the 2007 campaign, which started 6-2 only to finish 7-9.report=2012-02-09data
